The Truth About Motorcycle Riding Jeans

We’re asked the question a lot: what’s the deal with these motorcycle riding jeans? do they really work?

The short answer is yes and no.

Are they as good as leather pants? No.

Are they as good as “textile” riding pants, made of nylon or other such things? No.

Are they better than riding in gym shorts? Yes.

Are they better than riding in regular jeans? Yes.

Do they actually protect you? Yes, to a degree. In a crash involving a slide, the kevlar material used in most motorcycle riding jeans will last longer, even if only a second or two, increasing the time it takes for the abrasion happening between you and the road to touch your skin.

Do you recommend them? For quick short trips, or casual touring, yes, if that’s all you can afford or justify to wear.

Do you recommend them over leather or textile? No.

Who makes good motorcycle riding jeans? Our favorites include ICON, SHIFT and Alpinestars, in that order.

Motostrano sells a wide variety of the best motorcycle riding jeans available to you.

Motorcycle riding jeans are useful if you need a purposeful pant with a little more protection and a lot more comfort than a regular jean. Kevlar additions and knee padding means your skin and body will in fact hold up better in a crash than with regular jeans. Regular jeans are just cotton and they easily frey and hole up in a slide. Knee padding will also help with impact.

We don’t recommend riding jeans for longer sportbike riding. They can be useful for touring. They are helpful to commuters.

Motostrano sells many kinds of motorcycle riding jeans and they are happy to assist you with sizing questions.

One Response to “The Truth About Motorcycle Riding Jeans”

  1. Though I certainly do not advocate riding like most squids do: shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, no gloves, etc.. I at least feel that these kevlar jeans are a far greater choice however I myself never leave my drive way without full race leathers, boots, kevlar gloves, street armor, and my helmet on… People take it from me that if you lay your bike down at 100 mph while doing stand up wheelies on the freeway or doing anything else at 80,90, 100, 150 mph and you do not have all of the proper gear on you can take it to the bank that the asphalt is going to completely erase about 95 percent of your physical body lol.. Peace out everyone and stay safe/ride safe.. P.s squids should not be doing wheelies anyways lol
