This fall, ICON is scheduled to ship an all new boot category for the brand. Till now, ICON’s put out walk/ride ride-to-work type boots for the every-day rider. The new ICON Reign Waterproof Boots fall into the classic touring type moto boot, with a lower profile cut, waterproof and good looks. I gotta say, this boot will compete hard with the best from SIDI and Alpinestars.

The Reign Boot is offered in either a men’s or women’s version.

FEATURES Protection comes by the way of durable leather and a ballistic nylon upper mated with injection molded shin and ankle plates. The lowers feature an axialmetric steel shank along with slip-resistant high friction outsoles. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of ICON’s footwear products. Over the years, I think the idea of all the products have been great, but the final outcome in daily use usually has some major flaws that, if I wore them, would hinder me from becoming a repeat customer. This is coming from a shop that sells the best in motorcycle footwear produts, Alpinestars, SIDI, Gaerne, etc.

Icon typically takes a non-moto boot idea, like a work boot, or girly high heels, or timberland style high tops and modifies the idea to make a moto boot. Glue on a latch buckle here, spray on some no-slip stuff there, jam in some steel in the sole and away you go, preto-moto-boot-o.

But most motorcyclists are picky about what they put on their feet. Boots have to look ok, but more importantly they really gotta feel good and this is all in order to justify wearing them at all.

Which brings us to the category of the ‘do it all’ boot. The do-it-all boot is a ‘motorcycle boot’ that you can ride to work in and wear all day. You can hop off your bike and into a meeting or onto a forklift and not be out of place. This boot really doesn’t exist, actually. This boot is usually a low cut boot that comes close to looking like a regular shoe or walking boot.

Previous boot models like the Superduty 1 and 2 were just too damn stiff to wear AT ALL, let alone on or off the bike.

The new Icon Accelerant Waterproof Boots look promising. Simple looking. Akin to some kind of hiking boot. Basic coloring, small logos. A buckle that will hide under your pants. Laces for adjustability. Waterproof! And they are not heavy! Reasonably comfortable too. Good feeling leather.

Absolutely a wear all day boot. A good idea for a commuting boot. A decent long distance touring boot.
